When you exit the Bandaranaike International Airport, you will be greeted by a Blue Lanka representative who will be your chauffeur cum guide for the rest of this 14-day Wildlife Tour in Sri Lanka. Your first stop will be to briefly explore the capital city of Colombo.
Overnight stay will be Colombo.
Early the next morning, you will begin your wildlife journey and head towards Wilpattu. On the way, you will visit the Anawilundawa Wetland Sanctuary for beautiful natural wetland and bird sightings.
The uniqueness close to three different ecosystems. Coastal, mangroves and freshwater tanks are one of the six Ramsar wetlands in Sri Lanka.
Overnight stay at Wilpattu.
On Day 03, we have scheduled a full day jeep safari for you to thoroughly explore and peacefully observe the wildlife of Wilpattu National Park.
Wilpattu is world-renowned for its leopards. We should say that it is a great place to watch Sri Lankan leopards. Apart from that, you can watch other wild animals like the Sri Lanka elephant, the Sri Lankan sloth bear, the Indian rock python, the mugger crocodile, the Sri Lankan jungle fowl, the peafowl, etc.
Back to Wilpattu Hotel, Overnight stay there.
Today, we will travel from Wilpattu to Sigiriya. We will reach Sigiriya in the afternoon, and then we will visit a traditional village there. Here you can see the normal village life of Sri Lankans. You will also be lucky to have an authentic rice and curry meal.
After that, we will travel to Minneriya National Park for the evening safari. The national park is so popular for its abundant elephant population. In the dry season, 100–200 Sri Lankan elephants gather there, and it is considered the largest elephant gathering in Asia.
You will be staying in Sigiriya.
On day 05, you have an early morning visit to the Sigiriya sanctuary for bird watching. Later, you will explore the popular Lion’s Rock in Sigiriya. This is a rock-climbing activity which is do-able by most people and not to be missed as there are great views at the top and also beautiful frescoes engraved into the rock – which you will discover on your way up.
After the visit to Lion’s Rock, you will transfer to Kandy with a target to reach before 5.00p.m so you can attend the evening cultural dance performance in Kandy.
Culture dance show, Cultural Dance Show is a stimulating Sri Lankan Arts, Dance & Cultural Heritage Show that is a must see for any visitor who visits the historic city of Kandy.1 hour show.
Later that evening, you will check in to the hotel to relax and unwind for the night.
The next morning, you will go on a nature trail at Udawattekela Forest Reserve.
It is a small sanctuary situated in the city of Kandy. This is a calm and cool location where you can relax and enjoy nature. Udawattakale is a small sanctuary with 405 plant species, 81 bird species, and 21 snakes.
Then visit the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya.
It is another beautiful garden near Kandy. Here you can observe 4000+ plant species, including beautiful flowers.
After exploring beautiful flora at the gardens, you will transfer to Nuwara Eliya and check in to hotel for the next two nights.
On day 07 of this wildlife tour in Sri Lanka, you will visit the Horton Plains National Park.
Horton Plains National Park is the country’s highest national park, with elevations ranging from 2100 m to 2300 m. Horton Plains encompasses nearly 3160 ha of montane grassland and clouded forest. This is another popular tourist attraction with many beautiful places to watch. The World’s End and The Bakers’ fall are the two main attractions among them. The Sri Lankan Sambar deer is a common animal that you can observe throughout the park. This is a 9.5km nature trail which includes the view of World’s End point and also a visit to the Bakers Falls.
Overnight staying same hotel at Nuwara Eliya.
From Nuwara Eliya, the next morning, you will visit the gorgeous town of Ella – Nine Arches Bridge and Little Adam’s Peak. Later that day, you will transfer to Udawalawe hotel. Then the itinerary has planned an evening safari to the Udawalawe National Park.
This is another famous wildlife sanctuary with abundant wildlife. It is situated in the Uva and Sabaragamuwa provinces. Udawalawe is a great place to watch Sri Lankan elephants. Then you will come to the hotel.
Overnight stay at Udawalawa.
The next morning, you will transfer to Yala and experience the much-awaited afternoon jeep safari at Yala National Park. Once again,
Yala National Park is the second-largest national park in Sri Lanka. It is also famous for watching leopards. It is thought to have the highest leopard density in Sri Lanka. As well, you will commonly see sloth bears, Sri Lankan elephants, buffalos, and deer.
Yala is where you will be staying for two nights.
On day 10, another morning jeep safari opportunity is available for you to explore the wildlife in Yala. In the afternoon, you will be taken to the Bundala National Park to see the birds and wildlife there.
Bundala National Park is an internationally important wintering ground for migratory water birds in Sri Lanka. Bundala harbors 197 species of birds, the highlight being the greater flamingo, which migrate in large flocks.
Back to hotel Yala and night staying there.
On day 11, after breakfast you will transfer to Sinharaja and check in to hotel at Deniyaya.
A half day trekking tour is scheduled on day 11 to explore the Sinharaja Rain Forest.
Sinharaja Forest Reserve meaning ‘Lion Kingdom’ is the best-known Rain Forest in the country and has been identified as important biodiversity hotspot. The Park was originally declared a forest reserve in 1875 and due to its international importance, it was designated as a Biosphere Reserve in 1978 and a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1988.
Believed to have unbelievable genetic potential, waiting to be tapped. Some families of Dipterocarpaceae show an endemism of over 90%, of the 211 woody trees and lianas, 66% or 139 of them are endemic to the forest reserve. The lower plants such as Ferns and epiphytes of the 25 endemic species 13 have been recorded within Sinharaja itself.
Overnight stay at Deniyaya.
On day 12, another morning trekking tour opportunity is available for you to explore the wildlife and Biodiversity in Sinharaja rain forest.
Then you will travel from Deniyaya to Mirissa. Now, you are reaching the coastal side of southern Sri Lanka. Mirissa is a fishing village with many tourist attractions. We will visit the famous coconut tree hills and Mirissa beach. After that, we will come to your Mirissa Hotel to spend the night.
On the morning of this day, you will visit the Indian Ocean to observe its marine wildlife. We have planned an amazing whale-watching tour for you. On this tour, you can see different kinds of whales, dolphins, and other marine animals.
You will spend the evening at the beach and hotel with a leisurely mind. The night will be spent at the same hotel in Mirissa.
